*Empty to Fullness

“From His fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.” — John 1:16

The Bible is filled with stories of emptiness becoming fullness.

There were empty nets after a night of fishing. But when Jesus spoke, those same nets became full of fish.

There were empty baskets in the hands of the disciples. Yet when Jesus blessed the little bread and fish, the multitude ate—and twelve baskets were left over.

There were empty jars at a wedding in Cana. But when Jesus intervened, the water became wine, and the celebration was filled with joy.

And then there were empty hearts—ordinary disciples who had fear, weakness and uncertainty. But on the Day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came upon them. They were filled with the presence and power of God, and their lives were never the same again.

The pattern is beautiful: Jesus takes what is empty and fills it with His fullness.

Sometimes our nets feel empty—empty of answers, opportunities or hope.

Sometimes our baskets feel empty—nothing seems sufficient.

Sometimes our jars feel empty—joy, strength and peace seem to have run out.

But John reminds us:

“From His fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.”

David could say, “My cup overflows.”

And Psalm 16:11 says, “In Your presence there is fullness of joy.”

Our fullness does not come from having everything around us.

Our fullness comes from having Christ within us.

Empty hands can become hands that receive.

Empty hearts can become hearts filled with the Holy Spirit.

Empty lives can become vessels overflowing with His grace.

Empty to fullness—not because of what we have, but because of who Jesus is.
