Around 100 years ago, a Japanese professor called Ueno had a pet dog that loved him very dearly. Every day as Ueno walked to the railway station to catch the train to his college, Hachikō walked with him. And he would wait in the railway station until his master returned in the evening and as they walked back home, Hachikō would walk very closely with Ueno. This was their daily routine.
However, one day Ueno had a brain hemorrhage while at work and he died. That day also, like every other day, Hachikō was waiting for his master’s return in the Sibuya railway station. The train arrived dot on time as usual, but his beloved master alone did not return. Would you like to know what happened after that?
Hachikō did not return home that evening, but he remained in the railway station, waiting for his master. How many days? A very long wait. He did not lose heart or grow weary. Nine years, nine months and fifteen days … up to his death … to his last breath he waited for his master’s return.
Hachikō’s story is well known not only in Japan but also in the whole world. The story of Hachikō waiting till his death for the master who would not return is soul stirring.
So be it! Let us take a minute to ask ourselves a question! How much more should we wait for the Master who has promised to return? And how must we wait for our Master Jesus Christ who left us with the promise that He will surely return? Our Lord who promised us that He is going to prepare a mansion for us!! The Lord who promised to return any day or any night, be it even midnight!! Let not our wait end as a mere song of hope!!
May the Lord give us the longing of the Shulamite woman who earnestly desired for her beloved to come, to come away like ‘a gazelle or like a young stag on the spice-laden mountains’.
Amen, even so, come Lord Jesus, come quickly!!
Yes Lord come quickly and help me to be faithful to you.....
