On 5th August in the year 2010 there occurred a great catastrophe in a coal mine in Chile.  Thirty-three people who were working, 2300 feet below the surface of the earth were trapped inside. A situation wherein no one can help. Around the globe people were waiting anxiously to know to what happened to these men. Day and night rescue operations were in progress.  On the 17th day a slip was received with the help an equipment from below on which was written:  

“We 33 men are alive here”. 

Days went by. 69 days!! Without the loss of a single person, on the 69th day, (Oct 13, 2010) all were brought out safely. It was impossible to describe the joy of all who were present there. What really happened there?

Jose Hendricks, a 54 year-old God fearing man was among those who were struck by the catastrophe. He lifted the spirts of his co-workers by speaking the Word of God to them, who were in the depths of disappointment, who were seeing only death before their eyes. 2300 feet below the surface of the earth, he conducted a prayer meeting, every day!

It was always with the help of a small equipment that communication was established with those above. Jose demanded…” Please tell the Pastor of my church, to send across the daily Word of God in a small sheet of paper through this equipment.”They got the word of God everyday.

A situation wherein no one can help! Being trapped in a very deep hole for around 2 months!! But how could they all come out safely?

1) There was present a man among them who trusted in God. He encouraged his co-workers to pray and to trust in God every day.

2) Figuratively speaking, it was the Word of God which was received from another world that kept them alive.

3) They trusted in the Lord who is able and willing to save them from whatever terrible situation they are in.

Uncertainty right in front, losing all hope, what the fate will be? Health fading day by day…?

Trust in the Lord. Pray in faith. Read the Word of God daily. Commit your life to Jesus. With Jesus all things are possible.
